Elijah or Macaulay: Who Won?

In this film, little Elijah ran circles around Macaulay in terms of performance. Macaulay was too over the top and hard to take seriously as a genuine menace.

They both played their roles very well. I'm gonna give it to to Elijah though. He played the grieving son well as well as the "paranoid" nephew for for his aunt and uncle, then trying to be friends with his cousin as well as trying to stop his deeds.

reply

He was a talented little fellow

I like Macaulay as he is never a bad guy and it was fun to see him go to the extreme opposite.

His father was afraid that MacCauley might be typecast so he made a deal with the studio. They had to cast him in this role or he would not do Home Alone 2.

reply

Glad he did both.
I always feel ashamed how his career and life turned out.

In terms of performance in this film, Elijah.

In terms of a sustained acting career in adulthood, also Elijah.

reply

I agree

Funnily enough it was Elijah Wood who won the best child actor Saturn Award that year. So the voters in at the Saturn Awards thought he was better. I think I will go with Elijah too. Maculay was fine but Elijah also was in the more light hearted moments in the movie.

reply

I didnt know Elijah won that Saturn award but it was certainly well-deserved.

Macaulay Culkin has never been good really. He was a loveable, bad child actor. Famous for that silly shock face.

To me, it always felt like Macaulay was just saying lines and not really feeling them.
