Apparently it was an improvisation on Jones's part. Probably what won him the Oscar.

Meh. I don't think he deserved the Oscar but that to me is not his most memorable line. Him saying, "I don't bargain." to Newman when he tells him he should not have risked his life to kill Kopeland is a better character moment.
