GREAT FILM
shareAnd what exactly is so "primitive" about film in 1993 compared to now??
Or am I supposed to be taking the fact that you're 17 into account?
You might have been extremely young at the time, but that doesn't mean that the film medium was.
I agree!! I got the movie vhs when I was little and I'm 23 now.
shareBecause colour wasn't as good as now and technology wasn't as good as now
if you see karate movies made in the 1990s...then you can see the wires and everything...
and my age shouldn't matter...
Um, we're talking about 1993, not 1963 or even 73. Colorized film was not young, nor any longer really developing. Who exactly put the idea in your head that this movie accomplished anything considered a revolutionary feat by the technological standard of the time? The funniest thing about this has to be the movie you've chosen, of all the ones out there, as an example of 1990s "film advancement". I mean, if there sits buried underneath the numerous negative reviews out there a professionally-made observation on this flick that's consistent with your claims, then feel free to point me to it.
Your age indeed matters, because if you were several years older than you are, I can guarantee you would not have made this comment. No fully grown adult regards 1993 as being exactly ancient history, something which may have to do with the fact that we actually remember the year. I would suggest you hold off on making these type of observations until you've actually had those Film Class sessions you're anticipating signing up for.
True say...it was on vhs and not dvd...so the quality of movies are better now then in the 1990's as in the film making and dvd quality...i mean if you watch a dvd now...they are much better than vhs...
and i wasn't classing a 1993 as ancient history haha...
I meant the movie quality now are much better than in the 1990s

The image quality of VHS really wasn't that bad as you'd like to imagine.
The quality was bad, you could watch a film maybe 3 or 4 times and it would get stripes etc.
you're saying one thing then you contridict yourself
"wasn't that bad...
quality was bad..."
haaaaa I feel so old now,I was a 12 year old kid when this came out, everybody at my school had seen it , back in the days the film was huge.I own it mostly for nostalgia. But when I read things like not bad for a film made in 93 it really makes me laugh , As a child of the 90s I can tell you that films were in colour, and we had sound in them too...lol wait in 10 years when someone will say about a film you like right now , not bad for a film made in 2008.
sharehaha
your not old :D
why is everyone on here so nasty?
i get was she's trying to say. 90s films certainly weren't terrible compared to today, just a bit worse, sometimes...
probably just messy wording, give the kid a break
maybe she just means it like she doesn't remember many other good films from the same time...
and age doesn't have that much to do with it, anyone can watch a variety of movies from different times, it takes time and interest, not age

I think that people who actually beleive that films are better now should take film class.Great films were made in the 80s and 90s.
share90s films certainly weren't terrible compared to today, just a bit worse, sometimes...Ahahahahaha!!! Someone here is a definitely a youngin! I assume you think new microwaves are better quality just because they're newer? share
Why is everyone so ruthless towards the young guy who posted this? I know exactly what he meant and he didn't mean anything bad by it. Personally, I find the movies like Free Willy good because of its story and not because of the colour, quality or computer animation we see in today's movies. Sometimes we forget that we used to enjoy movies that were genuine, without any special effects and fancy computer renders. I think the guy was trying to say it was a good movie, better than many movies we see today and that you don't need fancy technology to tell a beautiful story in a film. In fact, this story is kind of timeless, isn't it?
shareI am a girl
Not a guy!
*technically* worse. Plot-wise I agree that 90s movies were better overall.
