Not Bad But Not As Good As I Hoped
I'd been wanting to watch Fire in the Sky for a long time and finally did. I was mostly disappointed. About three quarters of the movie was about the problems of Travis Walton's family and friends after his disappearance. Only a little of it was about Travis's experiences aboard the alien spacecraft. Perhaps this was to save on special effects. Those which were used were well done. One odd thing, the movie implied that the classic gray alien look was achieved through spacesuits and that the actual aliens were pink wrinkly things with small eyes. This is contrary to reports of other abductees who have seen the large eyes blink. I'm sure the lack of detail wasn't because Travis remembered so little as I've heard interviews with much more detail. Travis Walton was one of those rare abductees who were held for five days rather than a few hours, and who weren't entirely immobilized during the whole experience. The Unsolved Mysteries segment probably showed about as much detail as this movie. Minor quibble, the actor did not resemble Travis Walton much but perhaps that couldn't be helped. I don't know how close the movie is to the book as unfortunately the book, which has been published both as The Walton Experience and Fire in the Sky has become very rare and expensive. Overall it was an all right movie well acted, although I recognized only two actors, James Garner and Henry Thomas. Including Henry Thomas was a nice touch and he did a very good job. James Garner was great as usual.
