Not Bad But Not As Good As I Hoped

I'd been wanting to watch Fire in the Sky for a long time and finally did. I was mostly disappointed. About three quarters of the movie was about the problems of Travis Walton's family and friends after his disappearance. Only a little of it was about Travis's experiences aboard the alien spacecraft. Perhaps this was to save on special effects. Those which were used were well done. One odd thing, the movie implied that the classic gray alien look was achieved through spacesuits and that the actual aliens were pink wrinkly things with small eyes. This is contrary to reports of other abductees who have seen the large eyes blink. I'm sure the lack of detail wasn't because Travis remembered so little as I've heard interviews with much more detail. Travis Walton was one of those rare abductees who were held for five days rather than a few hours, and who weren't entirely immobilized during the whole experience. The Unsolved Mysteries segment probably showed about as much detail as this movie. Minor quibble, the actor did not resemble Travis Walton much but perhaps that couldn't be helped. I don't know how close the movie is to the book as unfortunately the book, which has been published both as The Walton Experience and Fire in the Sky has become very rare and expensive. Overall it was an all right movie well acted, although I recognized only two actors, James Garner and Henry Thomas. Including Henry Thomas was a nice touch and he did a very good job. James Garner was great as usual.

I felt the same. I watched this for the first time last night after hearing great things, but it was a bit disappointing. The alien scenes were great and I'm sure there was less of them due to budget reasons, but overall, the film was kind of just boring. It's still worth watching in my opinion, just need to lessen expectations. I also understand that the book has very different descriptions of the encounter, at least from what I read on the wiki, but I am kind of interested in getting the book and checking that out.

One thing I may have missed or perhaps the book covers, how did he escape?

Please let me know if you can obtain the book! There are two editions, The Walton Experience and Fire in the Sky. When I looked into it they were extremely rare and expensive. I was surprised since following the movie I would have expected the movie edition to be a bestseller.

From what I understand of Travis's experience: the aliens are said to have picked him up after the beam of light accidentally injured him, yet he described fighting them off with some sort of glass rod and running around the ship at will. He didn't seem to be hurt too badly or restrained to the point of immobility as many abductees are, at least at first. From what I understand of how he escaped, he was simply dropped off and may have been so out of it he doesn't remember, left extremely disoriented along a road where he managed to get to a phone booth. He wasn't too out of it to remember the number he wanted to call or at least the person's name to give to the operator. The movie portrayed him being taken to a hospital but I have read that he was not, I wonder which it is?

Wow that is surprising that it is rare. I would think the same that they would have published some extras for the film.

I can't find information on print run but available paperbacks start at $79.00 and hardcovers at $99.00 and go way up from there.

This is available for free with some ads on youtube:

I've read both books and this documentary is both books in documentary form. If you can't find the books, watching this will give you the answers to your questions. 😊

Thanks!

You're welcome! If you google him and Mike Rogers, you will find some very interesting articles where Mike Rogers admits the whole thing was a hoax. He did this when they had a falling out, then later when they reconciled, he recanted. But the damage was done because the way he explained how they did it matched up with many of the skeptics theories. 😕

I'll check it out. Thanks

You're welcome! 😊

Great documentary! I liked how they covered all of the skeptics' theories as well. Actually enjoyed this more than the movie I think.

It's much better than the first one. I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😊
