I loved the first hour, but then...

I loved the first hour. I especially love the biggest part of the movie where Travis was missing. That is the majority of the movie and to me, the strongest. The best writing and acting take place when Travis is missing and we come to like Mike and the rest of the crew. When Travis comes back, I feel the movie goes downhill. They handled the opening well, introducing us to everyone well, the scene when they lose Travis was done well with the ship and all. The huge chunk of the movie is while Travis is gone. The final act when Travis comes back just wasn't good in my opinion. I didn't care for it at all. Call me crazy, but I didn't care for the scenes on the ship with the aliens. People say they are terrifying. To me, it wasn't horror or terror that made the movie good. It was the drama that was the best part of the movie. I actually could've went without the aliens. I was letdown when I finally saw the aliens with how they looked. I didn't think the scene of them having him on the table doing all that stuff to him made any sense. I don't know where they came up with all that weird stuff. What were they doing? It didn't look like tests or experimenting to me. What did the aliens want? Why did they take him in the first place? Why did they let him go when they were finished with him? To me, it was pointless. With a good strong final act I would've been happy. Even without aliens.

You should forward your very valid complaints to the author of the source material, Travis himself. He's just not a very good storyteller.

Except no because the abduction scenes are only remotely inspired by his story, not based on despite the majority of the film being based on his source material.
