I couldn't agree more! I'm watching the movie right now and his wife's attitude disgusts me. Imagine your reputation and integrity come under fire and all your wife can think about is what other people are saying about you? I would have kicked her out of the house in a heartbeat.

I think the marriage was already in serious trouble before we saw her at the church meeting. Well, that's the impression that I got when his wife didn't believe his story and might've even been starting to believe what the people in town were saying about Mike being a murderer. When he left and went to a motel, I figured the writing was on the wall. They already had financial problems, which didn't help either. The OP is right though about Mike's wife. She was a bitch and she ditched the guy when he needed her the most. Terrible wife.
