Since that is a made up flower type, are there flowers that take years to mature and blosom?

it's not a made up flower, it is indeed a real flower. It was fake in the movie, but such flower does really exist. It's called Titan Arum, you can read more here http://www.kew.org/plants/titan/index.html

Also look up Corpse Flower, it's similar I think
