Is He From The Beano or NOT??!!!

I came onto this board looking for the answer, and I couldn't find the answer. So I'll ask the question myself:

I was a Beano reader in my youth (I'm 18, so I stopped a good few years ago), and I loved Dennis the Mennis like most kids. Then I saw this film. Watched it. Loved it. But he had no stripey red and black top, no mess of back hair, and no dog called Gnasher! So I concluded that it must have been a different Dennis the Mennis.

But then people started referring to it as being based on a comic. So, this may sound stupid to those of you who know the answer, but if not from the Beano, then what comic is this Dennis from?
