Mr. Wilson was such a Jerk.

Okay, I'm wondering how an old crabass like Mr. Wilson stays married. He was such an ass to Mrs. Wilson throughout almost the whole movie. Not to mention the filmmakers made him look like Saddam Husein. This was an okay movie but there's lots of room for improvement.

Perhaps Mr. Wilson wasn't such a crabgrass when he and Mrs. Wilson got married, and that his sour personality grew with age.

Plus, one can assume that they had been married long before Dennis was even born, so maybe Mr. Wilson hadn't had any motivation to become nasty...YET. And, let's face it, living next door to that kid could easily turn a normally even-tempered person into a big grump.

I LOVED Mr.Wilson, its just who Mr.Wilson is...

i thought dennis was a little *beep* and if i was mr wilson would either moved out or put a restraining order against him

One part that really saddened me was when Mr. Wilson told Dennis that he didn't want to see him and he didn't want to know him, that part was one of the saddest scenes in movie history, he did look alot like Saddam Hussein in the movie.

reply

I agree, even in the classic series in the 60's Mr. Wilson never talked that way to Dennis. The look on Dennis' face when Mr. Wilson said that to him
was so sad. I felt like decking Mr. Wilson after hearing him talk that hateful
to Dennis.

I thought the 60's Mr. Wilson was more rational minded than this particular Mr. Wilson.

reply

I had a hard time watching this scene because I couldn't help but feel sad for Dennis, you can tell Dennis always meant well and has good intentions.

reply

Yes it was pretty sad, But the saddest scene from a movie has to be when Forrest is talking to Jenny's grave. I Cry every tim, but i must confess I cry through many parts of Forrest Gump. Whaaa.

reply

I'm in agreement with you, that is the saddest movie scene of all time. I get choked up everytime I've watched it (about 15 now, I think). What a wonderful movie. But anyway, we were talking about Mr. Wilson. I like Walter Matthau and I thought he was a hoot in Grumpy Old Men, but I thought he was a little too grumpy for Mr. Wilson. Granted, Dennis could get on anyone's nerves, but I don't think the Mr. Wilson of the comic strip hated Dennis or thought he needed to be spanked, I just think he wanted to be left alone. That doesn't make you mean and hateful, just maybe a little impatient and cranky. I don't know, that's just my 2 cents.

reply

Mr. Wilson was great, And Dennis did need to be spanked.

reply

Speaking of Grumpy Old Men I thought Walter Matthau was grumpier in this film than he was in Grumpy Old Men, the other versions of Mr. Wilson was not this grumpy.

I think it's funny when Dennis shot a pill down Mr. Wilson's throat with a slingshot and got busted for it.

reply

Seriously,if I were Mr Wilson,i'd gladly keep the little cutie in my house instead of being so grumpy with him as in the movie....the high-pitched cutesy way he talks just makes you go 'awwww..' and makes him cuddly...and also those cute overalls that he wears...By the way, you ppl are right about his looks...he does look like Saddam Hussein to me when i saw the show a second time.

Guys wake up its always been like that and I think Walter Mattheau makes a great Mr.Wilson, although it was quite sad when he said those things to Dennis/

reply

My grandparents are/were* quite similar to Mr and Mrs Wilson (in fact Walter Matthau and Joan Plowright could probably play them quite well) my granddad was a cantankerous, stubborn old sod and my Nana was a lovely, gentle, motherly old lady who unfortunately wasn't always assertive enough. And they never split up.

But he probably got worse as he got older, he might not have been quite as bad as a younger man.

It's the classic old married couple situation, after being married for a very long time things aren't going to be the same as they were at first. At least this film showed Mr Wilson displaying some sensitivity towards his wife in one or two scenes.

*They're both still alive but very old and let's just say they're not really the same people anymore.

reply

I was about to say the samething the Wilson's reminded me of my grandparents as well, funny thing is my grandfather looked a lot like Walter Matthau so it always made me giggle watching the movie.

People are stupid with random moments of brillance!

reply

Well, I guess if you lived next door to a kid like Dennis, you'd be a jerk too.

reply

I too, thought that Walter Mathau was a terrific Mr. Wilson it's just that scene he was a little overbearing.

reply

Well, he did end up regretting it and feeling awful. He even went out to look for Dennis and decided to me nicer to him in the end.
