We all know this movie is awful, right?

I mean, we're sitting here asking questions like "Did she know he was in the closet?" and "Why didn't he immediately show the parents the 98 phone messages?" and such but it's really all moot because the writing, directing, and acting are a big pile of cliches.

Guilty pleasure movie at best.

All the panting young males notwithstanding, I fail to see how anyone could find this film at all even marginally acceptable. It has, in my opinion, the least talented cast it has ever been my misfortune to witness led by, but certainly not limited to, the always bumbling Cary Elwes. The only thing that prevents me from discarding it is the presence of "Copycat" and "Pacific Heights" in the same package. I believe the title would be more descriptive if its initial consonant was a C and the vowel an A.

I must admit I share your wonderment and have absolutely no idea what, if anything. I intended by what I said. All I can say is ,"Senility is a cruel master."

I actually thought this movie had potential, but the problems and plot-holes that everyone has pointed out are extremely unfortunate.

The main problem was the "Mary-Sue-ing" of Nick, and hence turning Adrien into a one-dimensional "obsessed nut".

I've written this on another thread, but being intellectually gifted often comes at the price of delayed social and emotional development. Teen girls are a nightmare at the best of times, but with these conditions added in, you've got trouble!

There was ample opportunity to explore Adrien's pathology...which would would have turned an otherwise predictable "good guy - bad guy" psychological thriller, into something of substance, but for whatever reason, this wasn't done.

The ending is downright ridiculous, and honestly, by that stage I was rooting for Adrien. Nick is clearly an idiot who (as bron-tay) pointed out, failed to save the ridiculous number of messages on his answering machine to show Adrien's parents, nor show them the creepy shrine under the guest house, nor keep his door locked after taking such drastic security measures.

You'd think by the wasp incident, he'd just go to a motel or something...but no...he's still there with his door unlocked, waiting for something bad to happen.

In addition, we get this marked jump from the believable actions of a highly intelligent (albeit emotionally disturbed) teenage girl, culminating in the fake sexual assault charge...to completely uncharacteristic, and outright stupid moves on Adrien's part.

I mean, she already had him lined up ready to be jailed...and could have easily used her time at the house to destroy/hide evidence of her stalker-like behaviors, but instead ties up her "best friend", goes medieval on Nick's arse with an iron bar, paradoxically attacks her dad for attacking Nick, and ends up in a locked psych ward.

Geeez! Really?

I mean, credit where it's due. Adrien is pretty much an evil-genius. Those kind of amateur moves at the end make no sense, and if the writers were THAT hell-bent on Nick "winning", they should have done it in a court of law setting...and actually USED that whole secret diary thing as exonerating evidence, instead of merely a pretext to get the required characters into the same place (the main house) at the end of the film.

Someone with an objective eye should remake this and use this same basic storyline to make a film that lives up to it's potential.

OP I hardly see your point in bashing a B-teen thriller.

'The Crush' was a big hit when it was released back in 1993 with very little TV advertising.

Alicia Silverstone was a complete unknown and 'The Crush' gave her a film career.

I personally didn't think it was a great movie back then, but I can appreciate what others liked about it.

Besides, Alicia Silverstone is ridiculously smokin' hot in this film so just enjoy it.

Speak for yourself, I, as well as others, found this movie enjoyable.

I agree! I think it's contemporaries Basic Instinct and Fatal Attraction are far more superior in writing and acting.
