The ending always makes me tear up

I only just caught the last five minutes of the film on TV, and it still makes me tear up a little. I love the bittersweet transition from sadness at the Jamaican team crashing and then their dignified determination to carry the bobsled all the way to the finish line, and then the crowd, especially the formerly arrogant German rival team, clapping in admiration and respect. Such a wonderful upbeat, stirring moment with a great message about the true importance of sport, which should primarily be about great sportsmanship, hard work and determination, and not simply medals.

The fact that this was one of the wonderful John Candy's last films, and to be honest, his last good film, before his sadly all-too-young death, adds an additional element of poignancy, especially when he joins the team in a group photograph, the last shot of the film. 

I couldn't agree more. I love this movie, and that's a large part of the reason why. It's far more powerful than if they'd won the gold medal.

"I'm not dead, mon. We have to finish the race."

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.
