Why didn't Laraine Newman play Connie Conehead?

Because she's too old, I guess they wanted Connie to be a young teen

Oh yeah, if you ever watch it when it comes on cable there are some extra scenes with her like she's old friends with the Coneheads.

I was disappointed that Laraine Newman didn't play Connie, but she was rather old to play a teenager by 1993. At least she's in the film briefly near the end.

Because Newman was considered to "old looking" when this movie was made.

And because Michelle Burke was thought to be a major up-and-coming, breakout young star when this was made. She also had a major role in Dazed and Confused the same year this came out, and everybody knows a HUGE number of actors in that movie went out to have major film careers.

Laraine was 25 when the original sketches aired, and people in their twenties play teenagers all the time on television, but she was 39 or 40 when the movie was filming, and there's no way someone that age could pass as a teenager.
