'American Me' similarities?
These films are similar?
Which is better?
American me is the real story real gangs real names.blood in blood out is fiction based loosely on real events. I watch this one cause it's funny
shareboth are similar and good...maybe you should watch them and decide which you like better.
"He must've thought it was white boy day. It ain't white boy day, is it?"
Ive noticed alot in common with these 2 films.
1. The way that there are 2 mexicans and 1 caucasian or half caucasian characters in both films (JD is similar to Miklo) although JD fit in with his fellow mexican gangsters alot more.
2. The way that they massacred a club owned by African Americans in both films.
3. The way miklo gets out of prison and is arrested again just like in american me when Montoya is back in prison in the end.
Blood in blood out is one of my all time favorites and in my opinion is the better movie, American Me is a good movie and is more true to the facts of the mexican mafia but just doesnt feel as authentic to me, thats one reason Blood in blood out is better in my opinion although some people say miklos acting is terrible along with others in the film it feels more authentic, it has real settings, was actually filmed in San Quentin using real prisoners even the real warden, and characters were just more believable, they all looked the part. American Me just doesnt have that feel alot of the actors dont look the part , theyve even got an asian guy playing a mexican and at the end of the day just isnt as good a movie overall
shareYes the similarities come from the fact that when Jerry Gershwin could not buy the Floyd Mutrux American Me script he hired the great Ross Thomas to write a story, then when nothing happened with American me Jerry Getshwin hired Floyd Mutrux to write the first version of the Bound By Honor Screenplay . Jeremy Iacone contribution came later. Meanwhile Taylor Hackford was trying to develop a script or project on the Black Guerrilla Family in fact Bonewell a key comrade of George Jackson and an original general had submitted his story of the Black Guerrilla Family to Hackford in the 90's and his script which covered the period 1958-1975 was called Blood In Blood out. Hackford passed on his script then when Jerry Gershwin contacted Hackford Hackford agreed and hired Jimmy Baca to rewrite the script. But notice that in American Me the black Guerrilla Family General is named Doc, a k a in real life James Doc Holiday, and in Bound By Honor he's named Bonafide, as in Bonewell.
shareBlood in Blood out is better. In both movies the Juero is to take in account the character of the late Mexican Mafia Boss Joe "Pegleg" Morgan. BIB has all the classic one liners and better soundtrack and score. The movies are a year apart but one is clearly superior to the other.
shareI like to watch both movies together. But I always watch American Me first then I watch Blood In, Blood Out afterwards. American Me was more true to life but Blood In, Blood Out is more like somewhat of a remake of American Me. Of course, that's just my opinion.
shareB IN B is the better movie if you like a little comedy and cliche' The Malo Cafe' song easily puts B in B on top. All the little racist and non-racist 1 liners are epic in B in B..

American Me has much better acting and a more accurate story. American Me is also a lot grittier with what really went down in prison and gang life back then.
shareapples and oranges. they though are not copying though.
am me is based on a non-fiction memoir of an og Mexican mafia member.
BIBO is a piece of fiction. also am me is almost completely about a prison gang, whereas bibo is much much broader. 3 leads not 1. much more about police, family, etc.
if I had to break it down I'd say am me is more powerful; and bibo is more colorful. I wouldn't call either one of them a date movie, unless your date is in a prison of course. in that case go with am me.
