Is this a real story
I can't find anything if this is real or not, but I think it is based on a real person. Does anyone have anything to back it up if it is real

i don't think its real, i live near and work at Mt.Brighton (the place they work in the beginning) and thats about an hour drive from Detroit. they couldn't have lived in Detroit and drove an hour just to work at a former garbage dump its not very realistic
shareYeah, conclusive evidence that the story isnt real, right there!
shareActually from what I understand it is based on a real life story...there really is a TJ Burke. He's writing what he wants to become a book and I've read the first 23 chapters so far. According to what I've read, some real-life-to-movie differences are:
- TJ didn't go out west with a buddy, he went alone.
- Never really lived out of a vehicle for more than a couple of days.
- The whole buddy dieing in an avalanche didn't happen.
- TJ worked as a liftie first before becoming a patroller.
There's many more. I'd say this movie is "loosely based" on TJ's Aspen adventures.

Yes, of course - it's definitely a real story.
It's not based on real life... but it's a real story!!!
;)
the movie is loosely based on patrick hasburgh's life as a ski instructor in aspen, in the seventies. it is semi-autobiographical; some things were altered and embellished, but yes it is a true story

actually its based on john travoltas career.
no just kidding. .
Based on the life of Jean-Claude Killey. That is how he got his start playing the Paul Gross character. The K2 endorsement followed and the rest is history.
