The big battle at the end has a lot in common with the helms deep battle. The arrows, the ladders, Henry coming at the end.

It seems like it inspired Game of Thrones much more. They definitely ripped it off, the Lord of the Rings was written way before this film but the comparisons between AOD and GOT is close to plagiarism.

Looking at his earlier films (Bad Taste, Braindead). He clearly shares the same taste as Sam Raimi for splatter-comedies. He's definitely a fan.
