Will there, or should there, be more episodes?
If more were made, should it still star Duchovny and Anderson?
And, should the episodes go into darker subject territory?

As with many film series and TV shows, its time is past. Feel free to make something inspired by it but in some sense... original.
Kinda like X Files was, in part, inspired by The Night Stalker.
Real-world-wise, in retrospect, it seemed the last two seasons basically delved into some of the same things as the current Disclosure Project of Dr. Steven Greer.
I'm sure you'd get varying opinions on the desirability and/or plausibility of those things being suggested by TXF series (and of course whether Chris Carter has himself been enlisted as an actor for some faction or another regarding the subject), but either way, all TXF ever did was present possibilities and let the viewer decide for themselves what to "believe" about what "truth" was "out there".
In short..."How the he// should I know?" ;P
Perhaps they could continue it with a new team of agents with Mulder appearing at least occasionally in a mentor role. There really isn’t much more they can explore with the original seasons’ storyline other than the son of Smoking Man and Scully, so there would have to be new mysteries to explore if they continue the series
shareI religiously watched all of the original run. I have't seen any of the more recent episodes, but I hear they weren't anywhere close to what the show used to be. My gut feeling is to let it be and just make sure there are plenty of reruns. But given the current love of legacy characters/actors I'd be surprised if we don't see Mulder and Scully again at some point.
shareThe last couple of seasons were more like really long Ford adverts than X-Files episodes from what I bothered to watch of them, although some weren't that bad.

If you were a fan of the series in its original iteration, then you're missing out. Seasons 10 and 11 have some great episodes.
"but I hear they weren't anywhere close to what the show used to be."
This is the problem people take with long-running shows. They're constantly comparing it to a moment in time that is gone. Instead, you should be comparing the current iteration of any show to what is on television with it NOW. It's not in competition with itself; it's in competition with the shows around it.
Yep ^^^
I agree with this assessment.
I think you should watch the two new seasons, they had several really good episodes
and it is X Files!
Judge a show or a movie by its own standing or merit, and thinking of it like this I enjoyed both new seasons. And if you must compare, it does what every older season of X Files did, it has some golden episodes and also has some lore episodes that may leave wayyy more questions than answers xD
Its worth a watch!
I hope not.
