Watched it for the First Time

I watched this flick for the first time and really enjoyed it. I got a Twin Peaks vibe from it from the first episode with the rhino and the dream, but that soon dissolved. Funny that it is past 2007 now and there are some similarities of what was predicted in this show. Next year, all TVs will be broadcast in HD and you will have to buy a converter box to watch. A far cry from holograms, but we're headed that way. Also I got a kick out of the Scientology/Synthiotics allusions. Was Scientology very big in 1993?

Funny that bit about the mandatory converter boxes, & they are never going to allow holographic technology for the masses since if it did exist (I’m not saying it does) then it could easily be weaponized (think the microwave emitter on Batman Begins & you will have some idea of what I mean).

Instead of the Boca Raton Event we got 9/11, and I wasn’t expecting the extraordinary rendition…

Heh... Well, I can't speak for you, but I've actually had a microwave in my home for a few years now. Granted, I haven't gotten around to weaponizing it...

Anyway, there is some research on holographic interfaces being done which, if successful, will definitely reach the public at some point.

Ironically, (now being Feb.2009) they have a commercial on TV, that shows people sitting in front of their TV, and then the camera zooms behind their head and its split open, and it looks like the movies being shown inside their mind, almost reminds me of this movie....I wish I could remember the brand name their advertising, maybe a plasma tv or Xbox??

They also had holograms on CNN during the Election coverage.

Holograms will be used for advertising first. Imagine walking down the grocery aisle, battling your way through dancing pizzas.

Watched the entire show today, was great. Reminded me of Twin Peaks in a way, not as funny or long as TP but still good. I felt as if WP was a bit rushed in parts, it could have been twice as long easy. I would have liked more character development; take Gracy, Harry's wife, for instance. Was a little hard to be sympathetic of her without knowing her too well. All we knew about Gully was he robbed a bank once and liked to eat.

Interestng bit in the Trivia section with Belushi not understanding the story, so he just read off the script. The movie wasn't that hard to invisualize. Funny how in the 2-3rd quarter they revealed the relations of all the characters at once it seemed. I started getting confused and was certain there was some incest going on there.

3D HD broadcasts have been around for almost a year now, albeit with shutter glasses rather than holography.

Holographic recording and playback exists in research labs, and is slated for general release in five years from what I've read. (I don't see the connection between "microwaves" & holographic TV. )

The U.S. had their Boca Raton in 9/11, complete with Bush's clamp-down on civil rights (sadly perpetuated by Obama) and the creation of "Perceptories" in Cuba.

OK. When & where do we get the Mimizine?

I watched Wild Palms for the first time a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it too. At times it bordered on utter nonsense, but it was always entertaining, fascinating nonsense. I loved the unique tone and the surrealism, and they were ahead of their time with the Scientology satire.

Contrarily, I started to watch Twin Peaks afterwards and had to switch it off. Tedious garbage. Many have alluded to a Twin Peaks vibe with this show, but other than a general weirdness and a sense of mystery, I didn't see it. Twin Peaks may have influenced this, but I detest anything David Lynch is involved with, and his appeal to pseudo-intellectuals is mind-boggling.
