He is 200 years in the past but he also says its a different earth in an alternate dimension.But if he isn't on his own earth how is he communicating with the future by placing ads in the paper.And does that mean that this dimensions version of Darien also went back in time and is in the past in Dariens dimension.

The time travel concept worked fine alone.Not sure why they felt the need to complicate things by throwing alternate dimensions into the mix.

I don't think he actually went into his past. I think the premise is he actually crossed dimensions. Selma was able to broadcast a signal to let the authorities know when to retrieve the criminals.
