Was filming a US show in Oz fairly common twenty-years ago? The fake American accents are a constant source of hilarity.
shareI don't know about Australia specifically, but it was the result of cheap actors and Government investment that plenty of Syndicated shows taped outside of the US
Hercules and Xena were famously shot in New Zealand
- as were several of the Raimi/Tapert projects
Beastmaster and Doyle's Lost World were in Australia
Sinbad was South Africa
- SAF3, a recent Baywatch-esque show filmed there as recently as 2014)
Highlander: The Series was one of the first in Vancouver (while doing half the Series in France)
- Mutant X, Cobra and countless others followed in BC (even 'normal' shows are opting for BC these days to save money)
TNT's Robin Hood was in Eastern Europe if I recall
Conan was shot in Mexico
Relic Hunter, Kung Fu Legend Continues and Witchblade were out of Toronto
Painkiller Jane (Syfy 2007) was filmed in Hungary
Lonesome Dove filmed in Alberta
