He was a GELF

a Genetically Engineered LifeForm. They appear throughout season 2, developed as soldiers for the UEO but a failed experiment. It's all described in the season 2 opener.

indeed, he was a GELF, though that particular race of GELF's was commonly referred to as Dagger's

reply

actually they where just nicknamed daggers because they where all (cept dagwood who was a prototype) trained for battle

reply

"Dagger" was an insulting way to refer to them. It was leftover racism, and Dagwood took the name to sort of get ownership of the word.

I couldn't stand Dagwood. He was the Jar Jar Binks of seaQuest. It was like the NBC suits said "we need a character like Forrest Gump to appeal to the kids" and the producers said "great idea!" I always felt he was one of the main reasons season 2 was such a massive disappointment compared to the first.

I love Dagwood. One of the characters said he didn't have a mean bone in his body. So true, but if you pissed him off he could do damage. I loved watching him eat, so much food and he never took skins off the fruit.

They were nicknamed "daggers" because they came out of the DAG -- Dark Age of Genetics, when mad scientists tried to create GM soldiers, who then went bad and had to be confined.
