Darwin and PETA
Does anyone here think if the show were to be made today and if they used a real dolphin in the show. Do you think that PETA would be protesting the filming of the show using a real dolphin.

Probably, though they didn't use a real dolphin back in the day, so there's no reason to use a real one today either.

shareDarwin was an audioanimatronic designed by the same people who made the 'Willy' robots from Free Willy. It was never a real dolphin (except in stock shots) and a lot of the time was just CGI. In the morning when they first put the robot into the water it would 'shudder' for about half an hour before they could film. The cast was sworn to secrecy during the first two years, (the dolphin was getting lots of fan mail) but the truth leaked out.
