People, after two decades I decided see the first season again and for the first time the second and third. Only 4 episodes remains to finish the third season now for me.
I really hated the second season, was hard see all episodes without be stressed or angry because they was so BAD done in all aspects. But I wanted understand the full saga on those three seasons.
I can't ignore the huge difference of the cast between the first and third season. At the time the internet wasn't so popular or easy to access like we do now using smart devices, and I never read the TV related magazines in that time. Just curious what happened with the cast? Some decided quit and that's the main reason why the quality of the series droped so much?
There are any sites with this all old material about the making off and why the series failed hard after the first season? Because the difference is huge, hard believe that there was a staff behind the cameras that worked hard after the first season was done.
It was so long ago I've forgotten exactly what happened between the first and second seasons. I just know it was a huge fail on someone's part & the show was pretty much ruined. I hate it because I really enjoyed the first season and the whole premise of the show. Sorry I can't answer your question, but perhaps you've found your answer by now. Suffice to say, I understand your dismay; many of us felt that way.
~ the hardest thing in this world... is to live in it ~
Producers wanted more flashy and typical sci-fi (while it was not even a sci-fi), more sexy heroes etc. I know that Scheider had big problems with it and he only stayed due to the contract. Some actors decided to leave and some were asked to leave. I think that it is nicely explained on wikipedia (for once).
Crocker - Fired, wanted a younger cast Krieg - Fired along with Crocker Shan - was supposed to be a cast member, actor didn't want to move to Florida. Westphalen - quit, actually survived the younger cast thing but quit because she didn't want to move to Florida and some conflict with the producers about the show. Hitchcock - quit, also didn't like the direction the show was going.
The last two, I think, really hit the show hard as Hitchcock was replaced with Henderson who, to the actor's credit, eventually did become bearable, but not really until season 3. Granted, apparently the entire character was an afterthought created after the actor auditioned for Smith and impressed the producers. [Which leads me to wonder, how were they going to handle engineering aspects, just give the dialog over to O'Neil or Ford?] Westphalen's absence caused the whole Captain/Doctor romance angle to be transferred to *shudder* Smith. Just... no, please no.
As for 2-3: Dr. Smith, I guess fired. Ortiz - fired, as I believe the producers wanted a smaller cast size. The actor wanted to say and I missed his interactions with O'Neil. Brody - quit due to issues with the production (actor was so frustrated with "Alone" he stormed off the set and subsequently didn't appear in the episode), least the character got a good death out of it Bridger - Definitely quit, he started badmouthing the show during season 2 and only reappeared for contract purposes.
Jake Meridius Conhale, at your service! "Old Man" of the BSG (RDM) boards.
Thanks people. I forgot that I posted here months ago.
Now I understand better. And how bad the second season was, their pathetic ending and the confusing first episode of season 3. They should released only the first season comercialy. The rest was a nightmare to watch,I hope they remake the series one day and maybe repay the fans just not doing something so stupid that was the season 2 & 3.
I think a do over could really work if a network would put up the amount of money needed to do it properly and blend in the science and peacekeeper role of season one but have the setting closer to the brink as it was in season 3, the CO like Bridger and the XO more like Hudson.
