Why it failed.

First off they tryed copying Star Trek :TNG's characters. But at the same time they kept the same cheesy and predictable scripts used in 80s dramas like Mcgyver. The technology on the "state of the art" Sea Quest, wasn't state of the art for the time the show was written, much less for the time it was set.

I don't know about that. For an early to mid-1990s show, the special effects were pretty decent. There is only so much you can spend on a television series. The technology depicted in the show seemed quite reasonable for a time period that is only 3 to 6 years from our present stage. You would not find the type of high-speed technology set for 1993, much less for 2019. If you can think of a submarine that can do 100+kts, let me know.

And it did last three seasons. Original Star Trek only lasted three seasons.

I think my only gripe was the stories seemed to get dumbed down a shade or two as the series progressed.
