Most dorm rooms are about the size of a walk in closet. This one has a huge room for guys & likewise for the chicks, plus a common room & a full kitchen?? Holy crap, I'd be throwing parties like crazy if that was my crib!

The dorm they had was a suite-type dorm, most colleges offer those along with the normal closet-sized dorms. Suite dorms ARE more expensive than normal ones though so unless you have the money its best to be in a normal dorm.
The dorm room I was in was suite style. Four bedrooms, four people (meaning obviously we got our rooms), two bathrooms (shared with one other person), livingroom and kitchen. It was nice.

A couple years ago, my school started a "residential revival" in which they started knocking down the old dorms to build new ones. All of the new buildings they're constructing are suite style, for 2 or 4 people. There are a couple different configurations. All of them have a common area with a small kitchenet (ie sink, fridge & microwave). The two people have either one shared bedroom, or each get their own bedroom area. There's also one that has a living room type area. 4 people options similarly have either shared or single rooms.

My school had suites like that available for sophomores-seniors. Freshmen definitely had the one room hole-in-the-wall.
