My boyfriend has some wild idea that the Bob Golic character was their dean. This seems wrong to me, I thought he was the RA (Resident Advisor). He seems to think this is wrong because he's too old. Well, maybe he's a real old graduate student. I haven't seen this show in a while so I'm not sure, anyone know for sure?
Actually, he was the resident DIRECTOR, not the assitant. Resident assistants are usually upperclassmen who live in the dorms, and reisdent directors are college graduates who oversee the dorms and all the RA's.
I think he was actually the R.A. He was just an upperclassman living in the dorm, just a little older than the typical college students. He was 36 when the show was on. He was supposed to be a former NFL player who went back to finish college after he retired, which could easily happen. It makes sense. He wasn't a college graduate because he was definitely taking classes during the show, and I doubt he was in grad school.
He seems to be an RHD (resident hall director). They're usually grad students who get paid to run an entire building (or a whole floor of a large building) and get paid for it. RAs are usually younger and not really responsible for too much, and rather than get paid they simply don't pay for their dorm. They basically answer to the RHD. At least that's what it was like in my school, I imagine most schools work the same way.
He was the RHD... I just saw the 2nd ep and he mentioned that he was working on his masters degree. Plus he also seemed to have more power then the average RA. For example, when he went out of town in the RAVE episode he got Dean McMann to watch the resident hall while he was gone. A regular RA wouldn't be able to do that.
His title is "R.A". He says it in the first episode. He has powers that reach beyong the typical R.A. position, but that's just the way his character was written.
He's also taking undergraduate classes to complete his masters as he says in the second episode. I don't know if that REALLY happens...but the show only got 1 season so it's easy to criticize.
Regardless of his title, it doesn't excuse the inappropriate amount of time he spent interfering with the gang's social life. As a 36-year-old, he had no business dropping by every five minutes to hang out with a group of freshman students.
