Niles and Daphne

In the 'First Date' episode where Niles and Daphne have dinner at the end (after Phyllis is scared off by Frasier), Niles could have said, "Daphne, when my divorce is finalized, and if you are still unattached, perhaps we could have an actual dinner date...". This would only be done after he had a few glasses of wine, of course.

I'm feeling my confidence return, I just need a few more minutes alone, and I'll be able to tell her everything.

Such a great episode.

I really like the ending too. Very poignant.

Daphne: You know, I know it seems hopeless right now, but I have a feeling that before very long you'll be sitting down to a nice, romantic dinner with the woman of your dreams.

Niles: I think you may just be right. Shall we?

I think Niles was really just scared to tell Daphne how he felt. The whole thing with Phyllis came up in the first place because he froze when he was intending to tell her. He only even ended up telling her when he had been told that she had feelings for him. It seems he was really scared of rejection and couldn't risk her saying no, until there was no other choice because she was going to marry Donny otherwise.
