Frasier's Change

Why dd they decide to make Frasier such a different character then the one on Cheers? On Cheers he was ne of the guys one who would come into the bar and drink beers with the guys. He was pompus, but not like he was on Frasier. On Frasier he would turn up his nose at anyone who mentioned beer, yet he drank the stuff for years at Cheers. He would always have a snide comment when Martin would bring out the golden can of suds. Don't get me wrong I love the show, but why did they decide to make him go from personality A to petsonality B? Was it ever explained?

I always saw Frasier as someone who adapted to his environment. When he was with Diane, he could be uppity and snooty. But after she left, he became one of the guys to fit in with the Cheers gang.

When he moved back to Seattle and reacquainted with his snooty brother Niles, he reverted back to his old self. While he was not as bad as Niles when looking down at people, he did think of himself as being above a lot of people.

Frasier did indulge in a beer when he went to McGinty's with Marty. But the Frasier on Cheers was quite different than the one on Frasier. On Frasier, he didn't seem to like dogs . On Cheers there was an episode where he had to give up his precious pooch because Diane was allergic to it. On Cheers he was shown in an episode chowing down heartily on barbequed ribs, on Frasier he said that he hated them. And so on. Oh well!

His environment. He was trying to blend in and be one of the guys on Cheers. Once in Seattle he and Niles hung out endlessly and they kind of mimicked each other and cranked up the reading on the prissy scale. Frasier just preferred wine. He still drank beer. In my opinion hanging out with Niles so much and their competitiveness with each other brought out Frasier's super pretentious side. When he was hanging out at a bar with Sam, Woody, Carla, Norma and Cliff he became more of a "just one of the guys" type of person.

Probably so that you would have such a huge contrast between him and Martin. The Frasier in Cheers would've been far more accepting of Martin and his ways which isn't going to make for a very funny dynamic.
