Alan Matthews, you scary

When he raises his voice though.

reply

Yes he is.

reply

The episode where Corey and Shawn drink get brought home by the cops was all over them was intense.

reply

How about the episode "Wheels?"

reply

I could never rewatch Wheels because I just felt so bad for Alan, I was a kid but I definitely understood how he felt, and I'd never want to do that to a good parent.

reply

Yes!
Whenever Alan raises his voice, you know he's had it.

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"

reply

yes and the threatening was also scary.

granted, he didn't do it much and there was relatively just cause for it but still...

OH THANK YOU GOD! THANK YOU SO BLOODY MUCH!!! Basil Fawlty

reply

Terrifying, and I like that about him. You know that he loves his kids, and he's not afraid to give out the tough love when they deserve it. I always respected the way that Amy and Alan functioned. They seemed pretty real to me.

reply

I've always thought that Alan was the best TV dad of the 90's. Loved his kids, loved his wife, wasn't afraid to live out his midlife crisis, offered great advice, and knew when to step away and the kids live their life (I still agree with him not helping Cory and Topanga after they got married).

reply

the only thing I had a problem with [and I agree and admit this was a writer's fault and not him] was when he said: how bout I hit you so hard you're back in high school?

not just he line but the fact that the audience laughed.

other than that he was what parents SHOULD BE -- even now.

they shouldn't take crap from their kids or their juvenile delinquent friends. they shouldn't have to take responsibility for their young adult child who gets married in college [and no pregnancy was involved] who then wants what newlyweds who had careers when they got married want.

Reading the paper can really be depressing. Mr. Dithers fired Dagwood again.

reply

I loved Alan in the Honeymoon's Over/Picket Fences episodes. Just when you thought he was kind of mindlessly supportive of Cory and Topanga getting married, etc. he hits them with a strong dose of reality. I'm surprised the writers didn't let them get divorced for awhile once they got their finances/education straight.

When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.
