thoughts in Girl Meets World so far.

I haven't been watching in a while. I saw the first couple of episodes when the show premiered. I'm watching an episode now it look like they brought in more Boy Meets World characters which is great.

I'm loving it. Whenever a new episode premiers, I watch a couple of episodes of BMW and then I watch the new GMW.

Tonight's episode of GMW had me crying. So sweet.

What was the episode about?

Eric's currently running for the Senate against a six-term incumbent to whom he's largely expected to lose because of his comparative lack of experience (he's presently the mayor of a small town in upstate New York) and because he acts like, well, Eric.

A young journalist named T.J. introduces himself to Eric and starts helping his campaign by offering him some inside information on the Senator's dirty dealings. During the debate, Eric's not doing well, until T.J. reveals that he's Tommy, the little boy Eric wanted to adopt in BMW but realized would be better off with a real family who could take better care of him. It's even the same actor who played Tommy all grown up. His speech about what Eric did for him, helps Eric win the debate.

Also he does not know what a Primary is.

I really like it. It can be a little lame/childish at times (even more than early BMW episodes were), and the classroom stuff could be a little better, but I like it a lot. Season 2 has done a great job of combining the GMW and BMW worlds. It's a fun extension of BMW.

I was hoping for a slightly more realistic show. BMW was more childish in the early seasons to match the problems that people age would experience but it wasn't as outlandish as GMW has been so far. I'm very self-aware that I'm watching people read lines as I watch this show; much more so than I ever was watching BMW. It's enjoyable but just not on the same level as its predecessor. The show has exceeded my expectations for sure but that doesn't mean it couldn't improve. One character I really miss is Topanga; her and Cory had such great chemistry in BMW. She really hasn't been given a personality in GMW. She's just a stereotypical mom that really could be played by anyone at this point.

as a new Yorker and a city gal to boot... I am a little appalled and very disappointed.

the schools do NOT LOOK LIKE THAT!
the school lunches DO NOT LOOK LIKE THAT!
they didn't even get the CYCLONE RIGHT! that killed me!

apartments in the city DO NOT LOOK LIKE THAT!
teaching [I know this for a fact] is NOT LIKE THAT! IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO BE LIKE THAT. CORY WOULD BE IN THE OFFICE IN DISCIPLINE MEETINGS EVERY WEEK! that is, if he was given tenure to begin with, which I doubt.

Reading the paper can really be depressing. Mr. Dithers fired Dagwood again.

It's almost like it's a TV show or something and not always going to be realistic.

reply

then what's the point of having it in a setting like that if you are not going to be REMOTELY accurate??

I started watching, I'm through episode 5. It's okay. I don't really like Riley at all though. Maya I go back and forth on. I'll probably keep watching though, I hear it does get better.

It really does get better, I promise. I was the same way. The early episodes are very much "This is how we do things on Disney Channel" and it's lame. Wait till the Christmas episode.

Had to wait until the series went to Netflix, but I finally watched the whole season. I've come to kind of like the show.

It started out very rocky. The pilot was downright awful. Klunky and trying too hard. I still don't really buy that Cory became a teacher for some reason. The show took awhile to find its groove. I feel like there was definitely interference from the folks at Disney to give it the now typical "Disney Channel" vibe. Or they were trying too hard to be like iCarly.

I think they rushed things with Maya, trying so hard to make her the Shawn of the show. Unfortunately, a lot of the time it seems like Riley isn't the main character of her own show. Cory and Shawn were always Cory and Shawn, but there was never any question that it was Cory's show.

But once they started ironing out the kinks and got past things being "so Raven" and became more BMW, it found a groove. I even laughed out loud several times. The Christmas episode was great. I hope it continues improving. I would advise new viewers to power through the first 8 episodes because it does get a little better (or you just get used to it). I'm loving the references to the old show, and the characters still feel like themselves. Cory is still very Cory. Yes, they have essentially remade a bunch of BMW episodes and some not so successfully, but the show is getting past its growing pains. Not as strong as BMW was in its first year, but it has potential.

I saw a few episodes and was disappointed. I don't know why though. I guess it is like a few others say it being childish. I was hoping it would be more relatable to those who grew up with Boy Meets World. As a parent I strongly disagreed with some things I saw so maybe it's just me and that's why I didn't like it.

One of my sister inlaws and my sister love the show and never miss it. They too grew up with it.

My kids who have watched the whole series of Boy Meets World were kinda disappointed too. My 16yr old has seen all of season 1 and said it was ok.
