If Cory And Shawn Did Have That 3rd Friend....?

Reading trivia about this show, apparently Cory was supposed to have 2 best friends instead of just Shawn, but they couldn't keep actors around steadily for that 3rd B.F. My question to you is if they did, do you think it would've changed the dynamic and success the series had?

I think it worked out just fine the way it did. To have Cory have 2 best friends instead of 1 may have made for an awkward, 3rd wheel vibe. But that's me. What say you? Discuss....

Well, Topanga was basically the 'third friend'.

Topanga was the third friend. But,I don't think they would have been able to focus as much on Shawn's life, if they had another male friend. Since Cory had to "save" Shawn from self-destruction, many times. That would have been harder to do, if they also would have had to focus on a third male friend. Topanga was a good friend. But she was a girl. Cory's relationship with her was different then his relationship with Shawn, for that reason. Nice balance between the best friend and the girlfriend/wife as opposed to two best friends.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about; male friend as opposed to a girl friend. At that period growing up there is a difference.

you might be talking about the first season where they had that black kid. Topanga was not his friend in the first season. she was too weird for him then.

Then she calmed the new age 'feel the colors' crap and became normal. then ne noticed her.

shi77y philosophy if you ask me... become normal so that people will appreciate you.

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

Yeah, they had 3 different kids with Shawn and Cory talking in the cafeteria that first season before they settled on just Shawn. One was in the pilot episode, and another was in the one where Cory tried to straighten his hair. Funny coincidence or not, I think all of those 3 kids were in the movie "The Sandlot"
