Shawn and Topanga Chemistry

Does anyone else notice that their interaction often looked flirtatious ? They are good friends and very comfortable with each other and obviously Corey wasn't worried about his unwaveringly loyal best friend trying to steal his girl from under his nose but the thought has to cross his mind a few times watching them interact.

In the episode where Shawn and Topanga kissed for the commercial ( Hogs and Kisses in season 6) Corey was clearly unnerved by their comfort level with each other. Shawn made a habit out of leaning in close to her and putting on his slick and charming demeonor even when talking to her. They were never shy about touching each other and their chemistry, even as friends was unremitting. I cant be the only one who noticed that.

If my boyfriend and best friend were that close it would make me very, very uncomfortable.

Honestly, no, not really. Shawn and Topanga actually always struck me as having surprisingly little interaction with one another considering they were two parts of the trio. Did the two of them even have any conversations just the two of them that weren't about Cory (or maybe Angela)?

I totally see Shawn and Topanga as platonic. Plus, Shawn and Topanga's loyalty to Cory is pretty much beyond reproach. Hell, I noticed more flirtatiousness between Topanga and Eric than Topanga and Shawn.

There were a few hints of it. First of Topanga spoke to Shawn about her moving before telling Cory. Now there's a chance she could've been talking about how Cory would react, but would it be ok for your best friend to kiss your significant other in the lips to comfort them?
Plus Topanga's father was always worried that Shawn would try something on Topanga. Now, Shawn may have been a bad boy, but he had to have done a few things that may have made her father think that Topanga and Shawn would end up together.

Now mind you, I said only hints. As for how close they were with each other, we can't really know as the show did over shove it down our throats that Shawn and Topanga were fighting over Cory. Baby Shawn said they should get married, Shawn was the one who fought for Cory and Topanga to get back together, Topanga and Cory worked together to help Shawn find "the one" and they still are doing that on GMW.

Testing out Shawn and Topanga would've been something to have tested out during BMW.

I always thought Shawn kissed Topanga on the cheek, not on the lips during that scene. Hence why I was confused as to why that wasn't agrued by Shawn or Topanga when Cory/Eric was freaking out about it

It was on the cheek but from Eric's POV I think he thought it was on the lips. I always thought that part was weird, but as far as Shawn and Topanga being flirtatious, I don't think anything of that. I have similar relationships with my close friends girlfriends and I would never dream of making a move on them, it's just kind of how some platonic friends of different genders act.

But by that logic hardly any real friendships existed outside of Cory and Shawn (and Eric and Jack I guess). When did Topanga and Angela talk about anything not involving the boys, how often did Shawn chat alone with Eric or Cory with Jack? Forget about Rachel. But we were supposed to believe at some point that they were all a close 'clique'.

I do believe at end of the day though, that Shawn and Topanga had a consistent soft spot for each other. They knew each other as long as they knew Cory, they knew a lot of each other's secrets and they were supportive of each other. Certainly Shawn liked her enough to devote himself regularly to keep Cory with her. On the other hand they often competed to be #1 in Cory's life, moments that may have looked like perhaps less than a friendship. Problems aside, I do think they were friends.
