When I saw the previews for it, this is the first movie I thought of. But aside from the previews I don't know much about LT...still, seems a bit similar on the surface, no?

Unlawful Entry is merely a romantic thriller, where Lakeview Terrace deals with race (poorly, at that). UE did what it intended to do and did it well. The fact that it was released around the same time as the Rodney King riots just added to the mystique of the film. That's just flat out good timing.

LT, with it's race message, is kind of outdated. It would have been a better film for the '90s, when all of the "reverse racism" debates were just starting to take hold in the mainstream. Today, it's gone a lot further. You have America divided over rather or not people should be able to hang nooses on their front lawns! I'm not saying it's so bad where whites are lynching blacks, and Obama's election is noted as well. This country's made great progress. But face it, there is a racial divide in this country today that was near non existent in the late '90s. Who says economic conditions don't affect race views?!?!?

That being said, LT, and it's message of reverse racism being just as bad as regular racism because racism is racism is racism no matter who the racist racially racity racy racist, is sort of passe. Would have been a great film for 1998 as opposed to 2008. The racial debate has intensified beyond the disgruntled black cop taking his aggression out on "wiggers". Unlawful Entry, however, was perfect for the time it was released.
