when he leaves the groceries outside

ok guys, so when karen's friend is over cooking dinner and keeping an eye on her, pete stops by unexpectedly. he says he picked up some groceries, but she hesitates to let him, so he leaves the groceries outside. a little while later, she opens the door and she's attacked by pete. what do you think, should she have known better and was she asking for it, or was she pretty much innocent and just a little too trustworthy?

It was meant to seem as poor judgement on her part, but no one is THAT stupid! It was just another bad Hollywood out to get him into the house. Surely they could've thought of something better!

She didn't even know the details about Michael as was evidenced a minute before the grocery scen. Chances are, she didn't know the details about the bad guy either. She knew he was disliked, but didn't know how dangerous he was.

RE: >>She knew he was disliked, but didn't know how dangerous he was.<<

Then why didn't she just open the door and say thanks for the groceries I'll tell Karen you stopped by? She'd already told him Karen was not feeling well. The fact that she wouldn't even open the door made it look like she did know he couldn't be trusted. She heard his footsteps and the gate, all she had to do was look out front until his car was gone.

So I agree, bad Hollywood plot moment, disconnected and stupid

that was dumb. it wasn't like it was a hot calzone he was dropping off. another dumb thing was when the bike cop chases mike after he runs the red light. why does mike pull over & run out of his car back to his house? why not just lead the bike cop in a chase to his house? it was funny tho, when the bike cop turns to follow his car. no car will let the bike cop turn & he has his lights & sirens on!

I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "... I drank what?"

She was just so desperate to get Ray Liottas baguette inside her.

I think Penny was just a douchebag. She should have known better.

I agree, it was just a plot device to get him inside the house. The writers perhaps could have come up with something more original, but this movie while cool was a bit by-the-numbers already.

What was a bit unusual was that Penny was found by Karen in the closet with a plastic bag over her head. Pete just happened to have a clear plastic bag with him?!

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

reply

Knowing what he intended to do, Pete could have retrieved the plastic from one of the items in the bag or from whatever place he may have stashed it before appearing at the door.

All that Karen's friend knew, in Pete's words, was that he was "unpopular" and was not welcome inside Karen's home. She knew he had done something to offend Karen and Michael, but she was not made aware of the details. Karen's friend was forced into the position of deciding whether or not the gift should be accepted, and rather than bother Karen about it, she decided to at least sit the bag of groceries down inside.
