Just watched the movie recently. How come this is a prequel but the events that happened with Dale in the last episode of the series already happened here?

I interpret the Black Lodge to represent another dimension where the ability to understand it through our known senses are baffled and misguided. What I find so startling about the mythology is that it intentionally messes with you no matter how hard you try to understand it.
