My thoughts on the deleted scenes

My first view of them was that brilliant trailer a few months ago and i was so excited and pumped to see some of the weird and slightly scary images. When i finished all of them without interruption last night, i was both elated and disappointed.
And I hate that i felt that way.

I was so happy to finally see these missing scenes after 25 years that i don't think anything could live up to the images in my head. And i was a little sad when they were over since that is officially the last time we will ever be able to visit Twin Peaks and these great characters.

A few of the scenes i do think should have been included back into the movie - mostly everything to do with Laura with a few exceptions. The dinner scene added a little levity to this already dark as midnight film, but felt extraneous. And the interaction with Donna's parents was great to see, but i don't think it added to the overall story arc of Laura's downfall.

These scenes would have been great if this was a weekly show prequel. Being a movie didn't allow for these side vignettes.

And i loved the longer fascinating convenience store meeting of the denizens of another place. And I never noticed the black character within that scene. The weird zooming shot to Jurgen Procnow was disorienting in a way.

The longer Philip Jeffries scene is also fascinating but loses some of the creepy factor that was overwhelming in the theatrical version. I do like seeing him in Buenos Aires hotel (minus the awful harp playing) and mentioning a woman left him a note (Judy?) They didn't show him disappear from there, but his return was awesome (minus the goofy hotel clerk pooping his pants- i would have cut that immediately).

This was actually my favorite of The Missing Pieces. While in general I like to view this separately from FWWM, I wouldn't mind seeing this in the film because it gives us an even deeper sense of despair by contrast. She's surrounded by this loving family that wants to include her but there's a dark force pulling them away from them (her own family is that dark force, sadly). Her delivery of "I am the muffin!" was brilliant - heartbreaking and hilarious at the same time.

I thought the fan/stairway sequence was creepier than the convenience store actually. I can't get the image of that demonic slow-dissolve grin out of my head.

I agree. And I think it was a key part to understanding the theme with the guardian angel - the doc Hayward quote, the angel that disappears from the painting, and the ending with Coop and the angel. Should have been in.
