Just watched the movie the other day. At that point some very loud thoughts were being directed her way, as happened a couple of times in the story, and she heard them, or at least felt their distinct disturbance of the force as it were.
I think these are things she referred to in her diary, and told Harold in person that one time, and that this is when she began to realize that her life might be at stake.
I did not interpret her expression as a smile.
