I always thought in the series that the owls were how the lodge inhabitants transported around when not possessing a body. And, even if I'm 100% wrong, at the very least they were definitely a sign of the presence of the Black Lodge in our world. However they seem to be replaced by electricity in FWWM. I don't think there's a single owl hoot in the entire movie. Why do you think electricity plays such a large role in FWWM in relation to the Black Lodge but barely plays (if at all) a role in the series?

There may be a hint of the role of electricity as we see what occurs when Leland/BOB is locked in the cell, suddenly bathed in what appears to be electricity (lightening). The focus is on water erupting in the room and BOB escaping. Water is an excellent conductor of electricity.
The owls may serve the purpose for observation only, while electricity is the conduit for moving around in the world.

I always thought that water blocked the influence of Lodge inhabitants. When the sprinklers are on Leland is himself and when the One Armed Man escapes from police custody he goes to the giant waterfall. But the electric part when Leland is in his cells is a good catch! I think we see the same thing with the One Armed Man in a bathroom stall when he has a vision of BOB.

You're not alone. I've read where others more steeped in folklore and mythology than yours truly have said the same. Reference the waterfall outside of the Great Northern and its implications for example.
There are other shots of flowing water that appear in various TP's episodes that seem to have a connection to BOB, though that too is subject to interpretation
It's interesting to note that in FWWM the focus shifts from water to power lines.
Quite some time ago, there was a post either on this board or on the Twin Peaks' series board made by someone who extensively theorized on how Electricity and it's various properties were the secret key that bound all the threads and themes of the Twin Peaks saga together. It further went on to explain how the Black Lodge and the good/evil dichotomy in the show were just two poles--positve and negative--that existed in electromagnetism.
It was a fascinating read, and I've searched for it again recently but have been unable to find it. Anyone remember reading this, also?
People believe what they want to believe. One term for this is Faith. Another is Delusion.
