With Laura's final week, we know what she did thru the show, but FWWM...

We know from the series what Laura's activities were during her last week and her last night. But FWWM does not show what we know.

*She doesn't visit Johnny at the Great Northern
*She doesn't visit Josie for her lessons
*The log lady says she and her log heard 2 girls screaming with a man in the woods, and then another man running after them. (the film does not show this).
*And there are slight changes the contradict the order of things from the show (haven't seen the movie in awhile).

And I'm sure there are other things that I'm forgetting (does anyone else remember what else?) And i think that put off a few fans since it didn't match up to what we know.

Wonder if any of the deleted scenes will show or address this?

We know from the series what the police detectives were able to reconstruct about Laura's last days. Most of these events are consistent with what we see in the movie, but maybe the decision was to show us something we didn't already know, a lot of which might have been much more important to Laura and to what happened.

For instance, putting both together we know that there were a few hours between school and a last visit to Bobby's, during which the session with Josie and at least one other significant thing could have taken place. Maybe Lynch felt that the descriptions of those two stops in the series was adequate, and that the time was better spent showing some things about how her school day was, and what others might have seen, and how her visit with Bobby went. I think that things are added there that can change or strengthen how some things in the series are seen when one goes back to it.

Um the film does show who's running after them. That's Mike, the one-armed man.

I was referring to the Log Lady's perspective of that night, not the one armed man.

The Log Lady said she heard screaming as they passed by her cabin. That would have been a significant thing to show (and in looking at the deleted scenes trailer, it looks as though there is a scene with the Log Lady holding her log, with a pained expression on her face, and what looks to be in a cabin).

Waldo was in Leo's cabin but he never attacked Laura in the movie

Thats a good one...i forgot about that bird attacking Laura. Also, didn't Jacque make her "bite the bullet" and she bit a casino chip and a piece ended up in her stomach that was examined during the autopsy?

Well, we're covering about 1 hour and 45 minutes of a 7-day period - obviously we're not going to see every single thing she does! Especially with someone as busy as Laura Palmer. ;) Personally I felt the movie already had enough bits connecting it up to the show, maybe too many. My favorite scenes tend to be the totally original ones we're unprepared for, like Mike confronting them in traffic or the visit to the Pink Room.

It's like with the new series - I hope Lynch and Frost spend more time inventing new wonders than tying up old loose ends.

-We never see Leland write the "Fire Walk With Me" note in FWWM or making a small mound of dirt (I guess we didn't have to)

-We see Leland place a mirror under Laura so she can see BOB's face in the reflection; I don't recall seeing this mirror anywhere in the pilot when Cooper and Truman were examining the bloody crime scene

-Weirdly enough, we see Leland hitting Ronette over the head, but what he hits her with isn't shown on camera (supposedly the bloody hammer that Cooper and Truman saw in the pilot)

-We don't see Leland scattering the diary pages or the bloody towels that he apparently tried to use to mop up the blood (this is in the script.)

-Wouldn't Laura, even after being wrapped in plastic, be covered in blood? There was blood all over the train car in the pilot, and we see her spitting it up when Leland stabs her to death, what, did it all wash off in the water or something? Did Leland clean her off with those towels?

-Several people mistakenly say that Laura was found nude when she was washed up on the rocks; err, she wasn't.

-Ronette's dream reconstructing the murder is inconsistent with the actual murder scene (she did see BOB, but would have been knocked unconscious for the actual stabbing, so how does she dream about that or the "Fire Walk With Me" note, both of which turn up in her dream?)

-They used different train cars for filming different parts of the scene; Ronette falls out a door that one-armed Mike knocks on that isn't anywhere to be seen on the train car

There are other things that we don't see as well. The stuff about "Waldo" is dead on. I was shocked it wasn't covered in "FWWM". It was so vital in the show but it was not covered in the film That was a disappointment to me but I still love the film.

I was shocked it wasn't covered in "FWWM".

I don't see the point since it was already covered in the show. We're told Waldo was on her shoulder (the marks), we're told the autopsy revealed a chip in her stomach... Why do we HAVE to see it occur? I'd rather see, well, everything else.

We've met before, haven't we?

reply

Waldo the bird seemed to me rather --please pardon-- minor as a key to the murder mystery, like several of the possible clues the coppers locked onto.

Unless that is, the search for Waldo had started them thinking about things hiding in plain sight.
