shareI saw it in a revival 8 or so years ago. The audience was very quiet at the end, most staying all the way through the credits, to hear the music I think. These were mainly college students or that age at least.

I saw it in a theater when it came out. I had seen all the lynch films, but never saw the show. It was confusing and thought provoking. The bar scene's use of subtitles was necessary 'cause that music was so loud.
I did. I honestly don't remember what the crowd was like the film is so intense and mesmerizing. So unspeakably horrific at the end. They perfectly captured demonic evil at it's worst.
shareI was a stupid teenager back then. I went to see it with my friend, who got us some LSD.
So I watched it on LSD, bad decision.
I don't remember much about the theater crowd reaction.... there weren't that many people... the film was not popular, it's wouldn't have been popular regardless of the reviews.
I think the only other people in the thr=eater were other young people , probably high on something because they heard of this 'trippy movie'
I think some people did leave, probably because they didn't get it.
My friend was a Twin Peaks fan.
In general, the small audience did not really understand most of it... gasped at the obviously shocking or scary parts.
