Help finding info from book

It has been a few years since I read the book. And cannot locate my copy. I think I gave it to a friend .... anyway.

I was wondering if a fellow bibliophile would be kind enough to provide me with a quote or quotes. It regards the conversation PK has with his grandfather. The grandfather relates the story of a fellow soldier during the Boer War who is shot while carrying a bible in his pocket. He said he learned 3 things. Never trust British Intelligence, the Boers could shoot like hell and God is in no one's pocket. What I need is exactly what the grandfather said....the quotes of that conversation....any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It's something along the lines of God is good for matters of the heart but not of the head....I think

I love that scene, and since I'm reading the book atm, I have the quote here:

"Which goes to prove, you can always depend on British army information not to be accurate, the Boers to be deadly accurate, the Bible to be good for matters of the heart but hopeless for those of the head and finally, that God is in nobody's pocket."

Is that what you were after, or the bit before?

"He loves the light! See how the light shines through him?"

What can I say but a most sincere Thank You?!
That is exactly what I was looking for. Although if you know the range the British Army Intel had stated the Boers could not shoot accurately at, I would be very, very interested. But either way, Thank You.

I loved the character of the grandfather. But the book is full of great characters. One after another.
