whats the point of unrated movies
what is the purpose of an unrated DVD? R movies should show everything! nothing should be censored . unrated films are about as useful as NC-17 rated movies.

shareGood Point most movies now have the unrated verison and the theather version inside. scarier and sexier version is the unrated.
shareAs you obviously already know, R movies can't show "everything", that would be NC-17. R means you can take kids into it if you're over 18, NC-17 means no kids, ever, no matter what.
Unrated just means they didn't bother going through the ratings board. It doesn't mean that it's specifically too "naughty" to get the R rating - in most of the ones I've seen it's not - but usually just that they changed SOMETHING since it was rated and dind't feel like going throught he process again. Plus it's a selling feature, people think they're skirting the process.
When certain movies are entered for classification by the MPAA, they are deemed to intense for the 'R' rating. The film makers are given a choice of cutting out the controversial scenes and getting the 'R' rating, or releasing the film unrated, or NC-17. Alot of movie studios dont want to put out unrated films because they don't make alot of money; most theatres refuse to show unrated films, and many poeple wouldn't go to an unrated film. Also unrated means kids can't be admitted, which makes the film really lose money as teens go to movies more than anyone else. The home video market is more laid back with it's rules, which is why those cut films turn up on dvd with the footage restored. The unrated version of 'Poison Ivy' was a little too much for the Cineplex in the mall, but I am glad it is avaliable to buy.
