Questions...And a spoiler or two...

I saw this for the first time last night; I was hooked and I don't know why. I was just wondering a few things that maybe someone can help clear up. Was Ivy's real name ever stated? Was this set in a certain time period; certain scenes just screamed 70s to me. Most tattoo parlors that I know of today will not allow alcohol, especially to minors. Also, alcohol thins the blood, not allowing for a good tattoo. That was another thing that led me to beleive that this was in the yesteryear sometime. Is there any information that says what happens between Sylvie and her Dad? If all Sylvie knew of Ivy was her fake name, how on earth would they try to notify her family of her passing? Was the constant raining in the movie supposed to be symbolic? Thanks for all your help on this. I found every scene between Ivy and Sylvie's Dad to be quite disturbing. Many on these boards found it erotic. Maybe I am in the minority, but I was grossed out to the point of switching channels till certain scenes were over.

ok... well, Iv's name was never stated, and she doesnt say her real name when Syvlie asks her because Ivy thinks it gives her a fresh start or sumthing or other/ Im pretty sure the movie was set in the 90's. There's no info on what happened b/w Sylvie and her dad and they obviously didnt notify Ivy's family of her death because Ivys family had very little to do with her... her dad didnt give a stuff about her and her aunt gets money for letting her stay there, thats the only reason she gets looked after. I think, personally, especially the rain when Ivy and Daryl are doing it on the car is to make the scene more erotic and provocative... i dont think it was symbolic to anything... hope that help you somewhat :)

Thanks TrueStar; I forgot to mention the hitchhiking;very big in the 70s, not so much today obviously for safety reasons; that's another reason I thought this may have been supposed to be in the 70s.

Sylvie and family would have been easily able to find out Ivy's name and contact relatives. Sylvie and Ivy went to the same school.

It's set when the film was shot - the 1990's. All of the outfits, haircuts, cars, Drew's nose ring, were all very 90's things.

Sylvie and her father wouldn't have been the ones responsible for notifying Ivy's family of anything. The authorities (police, coroner, etc.) would have identified her and contacted her family.
