Did Gus Mean to Kill...
...Clyde the Bully? I used to assume that he did based on my assumptions of the genre but now as I'm a bit older I notice in Clancy Brown's performance the absence of homicidal malice particularly in this scene. Now I'm wondering if maybe Gus didnt care either way obviously, at least in the moral sense. He seems to say "uh-oh" after Clyde's scarf gets caught in the spokes. I think Gus was just rough housing really dangerously with Clyde to teach him a lesson, probably would have smacked him around some more after he had made him pee his pants. The point of the scene I'm guessing is that either way no good can come from making Zombies.
