The constant changing of pronouns (he/she/him/her)

Did anyone else notice from the very beginning throughout the movie til the end whenever someone talked about the dog, its gender was constantly being switched from girl to boy and back again? Several times I heard Gus and even the kid refer to [the dog] as a female, but then then next scene would have Gus calling [the dog] "him".

Anyone else catch this and become confused?

I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves.

I did. I found it weird that the dog had a girls name Zoey yet they referred to her as him.

I'm sorry but I think you're mistaken. I've watched this movie dozens of times and I've always heard everyone refer to Zowie as a he. Can you provide specific scenes where this happens?
