Precisely! The whole airfield is in lock down security mode and Vincent has left the carnival site and somehow found an ambulance, uniform and ID...all off screen in a town the gang weren't planning on being in. Then he manages to bypass all the security and kill the "two top SWAT snipers" (again all off screen), before virtually sacrificing himself for Rayne.
Sly's airline really did need Cutter for the security job if they were hiring stewards with Vincent's background.
He just did.. It's just that old rotten formula of film-making that if your hero aint doing it, you can bet your ass that whatever it is, its going to be a screw up.. In the world of solo hero action movies, no matter how dumb your hero is, rest of the world is even dumber...
