Well made but awful script
The film starts off pretty rough. Some really awful dialog, Chase is not likable, the plot is all over the place, and what is the tone even supposed to be? But then you notice how well-directed the cinematography is, how good the effects are, how well made and well paced the film is. You remember that Carpenter is the guy directing, and he's so damn good at it. But the script is just so stupid. Chevy Chase knows he's got highly trained FBI agents out to assassinate him, but wants to go out for a morning jog? I feel like most people would try a lot harder to go into hiding.
