Why would Neill call Chevy and tell him he's coming?

When Chevy gets back to his apartment Neill calls him on the phone. Why? That's just insanely dumb.

reply

because they don't know for sure that it's chevy's character that's the invisible guy. he gave them a fake name. they managed to get the register out of the building and were calling everyone who signed in, either to see if they'd recognize his voice, or figuring the invisible guy wouldn't answer. either they heard chevy's voice on the answering machine and recognized it, or his voice wasn't on the machine but everyone else checked out and they were able to track it down to him. it wasn't dumb.

Ok, but since Neill's crew has no problem with killing people they could've just kidnap Chevy just in case, him being the invisible man or not. Also, they could've just put everyone under surveillance until they went to bed or something and then get in the apartments and check who's in there. By calling him, they gave him the only chance he had to escape.

in the real world, chevy chase's character would have never escaped. and he would have taken the deal too as he'd have no other option.

but in the real world, the cia isn't even going to get involved until later, first he'll be studied extensively by nasa.
