I've been a Chevy Chase fan all my life too. I know some of his filmed are considered to have bombed, and that his career itself is considered to have grown stale, but still, there's still just something about him that I find likable.

In part, it could also boil down to the nostalgia of childhood memories. I tend to have a love for things I remember growing up with, even though the adult me can now see the flaws in some of those things. There are plenty of times where I've gotten my hands on a movie I saw 15-20 years ago and remember I loved it, but then I'm partly disappointed when I finally re-watch it.

When it comes to Chevy Chase, I guess I'm forgiving even towards what's considered to be some of his worst movies, simply because I like him. At least as an actor, as you said; I know many have mentioned alot about him in real life. I don't know that side of him, so I can't comment.

Some of his roles are perfect for his way of delivery and some are not. This is one his best. Most people who hate this movie, hate Chevy in general.

Carpenter has a way of pulling great performances out of people. I enjoyed the film and thought the acting of Chase was one of his best. Maybe not the best story written but in the serious parts of the film he is awesome.
