Its obviously a plot device. It doesnt really matter how it happens. It was funny and sometimes crazy things do happen.

It's the only dreadful moment in the film. But it's just a stepping stone that allows the rest of the film to take place.

It doesn't particularly matter what causes the explosion. Would be nice if it was something actually plausible but there we are.
