Only 7.7?

This movie is fantastic. Great acting, cinematography, score and directing all around. I know 7.7 is not a bad score at all, but it deserves at least above an 8 in my opinion.

It needed a brave editor to do some cutting.

I graduated from the college of the streets, I gotta Phd in how to make ends meet.

Exactly. The film is a bit long in the tooth in the unimportant scenes and a bit brief in the important ones. However, still an excellent film and it is the one film that really stands out in Lee's works that prevents me from writing him off as a mediocre filmmaker. Definitely his magnum opus up to date and a wonderful biopic.

It's a Spike Lee movie. He's not popular here on imdb. Think the movie deserves much higher too

reply

Its the subject of the movie the brings down the rating. Unfortunately, because it is easily one of the greatest American movies ever made.

I'm surprised it's actually that high. Spike is Panned on IMDb. Mo Betta Blues, Clockers and He Got Game are other examples of his films being overlooked. He's blended Style and Substance as good as anyone. His Cinematography from Ernest Dickerson and Malik Hassan Sayeed is raw, beautiful and unique. In Malcolm X, the film is structured by this. As the time and tone change, so does the Color Schemes, Cuts, Lighting etc. Each complimenting the narrative.

I agree, the fact that this and Do The Right Thing both have below an 8 is ridiculous. Both are masterpieces. The fact that both barely got any oscar nominations is ridiculous too. Malcolm X couldve easily been nominated for 10-12 Oscars
